Discover the Truth: Can Blink Doorbell Work with Google Home?

When you are trying to set up a security system, such as video doorbells, you have a lot of options available. But before you move ahead, you must make sure that the device is compatible with your existing smart home assistant, like Google Home.

If your home security is dependent on Google services, you need to have a security camera or video doorbell that is compatible with them.

A few days ago, I was thinking of buying a Blink doorbell. For that reason, I wanted to know if I could integrate that with my Google Home or not. So, I did some research, and today, in this blog, I am going to share my experience and findings with you.

Does Blink Doorbell Support Google Home Natively?

No, the Blink doorbell doesn’t support Google Home. That’s because Blink cameras and doorbells don’t have any native support for Google Home or other Google services currently. And this is to be expected.

But if you already have a Blink device and Google Home pre-installed, don’t worry; there are several other ways in which you can connect them. But I think you can’t enjoy all the facilities then.

Reasons Why Blink Doorbells Don’t Support Google Home

Blink is an Amazon company. They have built-in support for devices that support Alexa, which is Amazon’s Smart Assistant. Google Home, on the other hand, is a product from Google.

It’s part of Amazon’s business plan to bring its consumers inside the Amazon ecosystem. They want to engage their customers with other services or products they provide or make.

So if you buy a Blink camera, you will need to buy other Amazon gadgets because they have Alexa inside. You can then have access to all the features of the doorbell.

If you could connect the Blink device with Google devices natively, you wouldn’t go out and buy Alexa-enabled products. You would just buy Blink cameras and integrate them with Google devices.

That means it’s nothing but a business strategy from Amazon to connect with more and more consumers. Because of this policy, you cannot connect the Blink doorbell to Google Home.

Why Compatibility Between Blink And Google Home Is Important?

Smart home assistants are like superiors with all the controls. On the other side, smart doorbells can execute what is asked of them. That means smart home assistants have control over the devices that are integrated with them.

But there is a factor called compatibility that comes in the middle! When a security device like the Blink doorbell is compatible with your home assistant, you can access more features and enjoy more security.

If both of them are not compatible with each other, it could be a waste of money. Your security can be compromised because you can’t access a lot of features. The worst thing that can happen is that you might not be able to use the doorbell completely.

Connecting Blink With Google Home Using IFTTT

IFTTT is a free third-party web service that creates the conditions that an incompatible device demands. This service does this by bringing about changes and pitching a suitable platform.

The full form of IFTTT is “If This, Then That”. It allows devices with completely different operating systems to integrate and sync up.

To connect Blink and Google Home with IFTTT, first, make sure they are authenticated. If not, do it first. Next, you have to select an applet or service that will trigger the whole system when you integrate.

After that, choose what action you want to take. In this case, you should go for the “arm” action to initiate the process. Finally, choose what services you want to have from Blink and Google Home.

I understand this whole process may seem a little complicated to many of you. It’s up to you whether you are ready to take the chance or not.

Other Doorbell Brands That Are Compatible With Google Home

You can look for other options if you already have Google Home installed, as Blink is not compatible with it. You can find several other Google Home-compatible doorbells.

I have made a list of those doorbells for you. I hope this will help you a lot:

1. Google Nest

Don’t be surprised! Of course, Google has its own doorbell cameras. The Google Nest series cameras, such as the Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired), Nest Cam Battery, and Nest Cam with Floodlight, all support Google Home and Assistant.

If you have already invested in the Google ecosystem, it’s a good idea to invest more in Google Nest Doorbells.

2. Wyze

If you are looking for a budget-friendly option, Wyze is the brand for you. It has a range of indoor and outdoor security camera doorbells. Wyze Cam v3, Wyze Cam Pan v2, and Wyze Cam Outdoor support Google Home.

The Pan v2 has advanced motion tracking, which increases its ability as a smart home camera option. You can read Wyze Doorbell’s common issues and solutions.

3. Arlo

This is one of the most effective security camera doorbell systems. The best thing is that Arlo is compatible with Google Home. You can have access to the live streaming via the Arlo app or Google Nest Hub.

Arlo Ultra 2 Spotlight, Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight, Arlo Essential Indoor, and Arlo Essential Spotlight are some decent choices for your smart home.

4. Eufy

Eufy Solo IndoorCam C24 and Eufy Solo IndoorCam P24 are highly affordable devices that are compatible with Google’s smart home system. You can give it a try as well.

5. Ring

Ring is one of the most famous smart doorbells. Although Ring is another product of Amazon, you can integrate any Ring device with Google Home.

Some of these products may require a compatible smart home hub. Google Nest Hub or a device with a built-in Google Assistant are some of them. You must set up the camera with the Google Home app and link it to your Google account.

Is It Worth Connecting Blink Doorbell with Google Home?

So after going through this process, you might be wondering if it is worth integrating your Blink devices with Google Home. If you ask me, my answer is no.

Though you can integrate them by using IFTTT, that’s still a third-party service. You won’t be able to access all the features and controls as you would on a device that has native support.

Another reason I would not recommend it is that the procedure for connecting with IFTTT is quite complicated.

If you still want to consider it, you have two options. Either you buy a camera doorbell that has native support for Google Home, Or if you want to stick with Blink, go for Alexa’s smart system instead of Google.

Both of these solutions are better than having third-party apps act as a middleman in a security system.

Final Thoughts

You should check when you’re getting a smart doorbell, like Blink, to see if it can work with your smart home setup. Also, ensure everything can work together smoothly.

Blink isn’t compatible with Google Home. That’s because Blink and Google Home are made by different companies and competitors. So you can switch out one of them and pick devices that are designed to work together.

By choosing compatible devices, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of a smarter home without any hassles. So be sure to do your research and pick the right devices that can work together without any issues!
