Are you facing issues after changing the battery of your Schlage lock? Isn’t it working after the battery change? If yes, then don’t panic. You’re not the only one to face this issue. Many Schlage lock users have asked me to give a solution to this problem.
Therefore, I have shared some issues here and provided solutions for each of them.
So, let’s get started.
Tips for Troubleshooting a Schlage Lock That’s Not Working After Battery Change
I have found a few reasons why your Schlage lock fails to function after battery replacement. A few reasons are to use of incorrect batteries, incorrect installation of batteries, or a malfunction in the lock.
However, before troubleshooting, you need to know the exact reason behind the problem and then take steps accordingly.
Here are some more reasons and their solutions.
Wrong Installation
You may face not working problem due to the wrong installation of the batteries. It rarely happens. If you put the batteries in the lock the wrong way, the lock will not work since the incorrect installation will not supply the necessary power.
So what should you do? You should first check the batteries and ensure that they are installed in the right way. If not, remove them from the lock and reinstall them correctly.
Once you have placed the batteries in the right position on the battery chamber, your Schlage lock should operate properly. If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.
Fatly Battery Connector
Upon removing the old batteries, the battery connectors can become damaged or displaced. This will result in your lock being unable to function, regardless of whether you insert new batteries.
So you should ensure the battery connector is untouched. If they are not, you must first fix them in order to make the lock work. It is not difficult to repair the connectors. Just place the connectors where the wiring meets them.
You should place the batteries correctly and ensure their connection to the battery connector is secure if they are intact. If you fix the connector’s not working issue, the Schlage smart lock should function well as it did previously. If not, then proceed to the next step.

Wrong Type Batteries
You will waste your time and effort if you fail to use the correct batteries for your lock. If you use the wrong type of batteries, you will not find any issues, and your lock will not function either.
Different Schlage keypad lock models require different types of batteries. So the solution is:
You need to identify the type of batteries required by your Schlage keypad lock. Schlage smart locks use non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Therefore, when you replace the new batteries with the old ones, they must be of the same type.
There are many of us who use lithium rechargeable batteries. This is the reason why the lock does not function.
So make sure you do not place lithium batteries inside the lock when replacing the batteries. Ensure your lock is compatible with the batteries and install the correct type of batteries when you replace them.
Incorrect Battery Setup
Here is a method you can use if all the above options have been tried but your lock is still not working.

If the Problem is Not Resolved, What Should You Do?
If none of the above mentioned methods work, then you can attempt to factory reset the Schlage smart lock. Upon factory reset, the lock returns to its default settings and functions as if it were brand new. You can perform a factory reset by following the steps below:
Ready to reset your Schlage lock? It’s easy!
