Recording through a ring camera can be tricky. But assuring yourself that it is working properly is trickier. How can you handle recording important incident footage if you cannot tell whether your Ring Camera is working in order?
Something terrible can happen under your nose, leaving you restless, and you cannot even figure out what it is. So if you want to keep relaxed while having proof, you must acknowledge yourself about its functions.

If you check consciously, you will see a notification that the camera is recording by either the Ring app or the red light on the Ring Camera.
For some individuals, the primary edge of their protection against potential damage is their Ring Camera. When you know that your Ring Camera is recording, you can have an escape from the stress and headaches in the long run. It happens only by the thought that everything is recorded accordingly.
Note: There is a blue light function on a Ring camera as well. Do not confuse yourself with the red one. The blue one is the night vision light. It turns on automatically at night and should turn off when daytime returns.

The Ring app connected to your device helps you to be notified when your Ring Camera begins to record. The alternative is to first step outside onto your porch. Then look for the tiny red LED light that says “Ring Camera is recording” to see if it’s on.

Every device starts malfunctioning at a certain point after using it for a long time. Ring Camera is no different than other devices.

When you notice this message, you must understand that there is a problem with data transfer between your Ring Camera and the Ring app. Possible causes include:
1) Poor connection between devices and the Internet
When you face such a situation, ensure that each time you handle your device in reference to your Ring Camera, both modules are on the same WiFi network.
When both devices are connected to the same WiFi network, keep a look at the connection of your network signal on your device.
The speed of your WiFi connectivity is determined by various factors, the most important of which is the distance between you and the network connection.
When there are situations that hinder your WiFi signal from reaching you effectively, you may need to reconsider where you should place the router.
2) Check the WiFi/Internet speed
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates the minimum download speed as 25 Megabits per second (Mbps); anything higher than that, and you’re good to go.
The Ring Camera is the most effective at upload and download speeds of 2 Mbps. However, be cautious when testing your Internet speeds.
The more devices you connect to a router, the slower your Internet will become. For example, suppose you have a router that emits at 100 Mbps, but you also have:
- Gaming consoles
- Ring Camera
- Three Smart TVs
- Multiple smartphones, tablets, and laptops
Note: Each of these following devices linked to that 100 Mbps router will have a slow connection. Purchase a router that will meet your and your family’s requirements. Perform an Internet speed test to check your upload and download speeds.
Even if no one is using the Internet, your Internet will become slower during certain peak hours. Throughout those rush hours, the Internet network that you subscribed to has other users, and those users are all on the Internet at the same time, clogging it up.
As a result, even if you are not gaming or streaming movies, you may experience some lags late at night.
3) Connectivity issues or lagging from Ring Camera to the router
One of the main reasons your Ring camera will not work or record is a lack of connectivity. This device relies on a stable internet connection to update recorded snaps to the cloud and send them to you to watch on your smartphone or tablet.
So, use one of the following troubleshooting steps to resolve your connectivity issues:
- Restart the router and turn off the camera.
- Improved WiFi signal power.
- Reduce wireless interference.
- Select the 2.4GHz channel.
- Upgrade the firmware on the router.
- Reboot your router.
Note: Please remember that the Ring Spotlight Cam only supports a minimum upload speed of 1Mbps, but 2 Mbps is strongly suggested for optimal performance; meanwhile, the Ring Stick Up demands a high-speed internet connection.

Once you finish trying all the following methods and learn that none of these are working, finding the same Ring Camera malfunctioning issue or security issue within any of the services or devices, contact the customer support system.
Once you report the problem, Ring support agents will review your video recordings related to assisting you and resolving your issue.
The customer support team may ask for access to your Ring system. You can let them have temporary access to all of your video recordings.
If you believe that certain videos will not assist the support agents in resolving the recording issue, you are not required to allow them access to the video and replace your Ring Camera with a new one.
